Details:
The Islamic Center of Tidewater (MCT) in Norfolk, Virginia, provides Islamic marriage (Nikah) ceremonies for Muslim couples. Couples must contact the center at least two weeks before their intended ceremony date to make arrangements. The groom must be Muslim, and the bride must have a Wali (guardian) present. Both parties must give mutual consent, agree on the Mahr (marital gift), and sign a written marriage contract in the presence of two adult Muslim witnesses. A valid Virginia marriage license is also required. If the bride was previously married, a divorce decree or her former husband's death certificate must be provided. On the day of the ceremony, the couple and Wali must bring government-issued photo identification, along with the marriage license. The center does not issue a marriage certificate unless all requirements are fulfilled.
