Details:
Nikah Services at the Islamic Cultural Center of New York (ICCNY) provide Islamic marriage ceremonies performed by the center’s Imam. The Nikah requires mutual consent between the bride and groom, two adult Muslim witnesses, a Wali for the bride, an agreed Mahr, and a written marriage contract signed by the couple, witnesses, and officiant. ICCNY also conducts a marriage sermon (Khutbah) explaining the responsibilities of marriage. The Nikah makes the couple Islamically married, but it does not replace the legal marriage process, so couples must also obtain a marriage license from the appropriate local government. The service is available by appointment and costs $200, with a Nikah certificate provided after the ceremony.
