Zakat Services at SALAM Islamic Center help collect and distribute Zakat funds to eligible individuals and families in need. SALAM maintains a separate Zakat account and uses a dedicated committee to verify applicants, assess their financial needs, and distribute assistance responsibly. Support can include cash aid, food vouchers, rent and utility assistance, medical expenses, and educational support. Zakat is distributed according to the eight categories outlined in Islamic teachings, including the poor, needy, debt-ridden, and stranded travelers. Applicants must submit supporting documents in person, and approved recipients can generally reapply every six months. SALAM also provides transparent record keeping and annual reporting on how Zakat funds are collected and distributed.
